Services
The Police Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network provides the services below to the staff of member organisations, citizens of the Velocity Interoperability Network and visitors to its sites. Services are provided without charge. Visitors may report crime, use station counters and reclaim property in the same way as staff and citizens; police certificates are issued only to staff and citizens.
- Reporting a crime or incident
- Reports may be made at any station counter or in writing at any time. Every report receives a reference number, is assessed within one working day and is allocated to a patrol, a community policing team or an investigator according to its seriousness.
- Community policing
- A team at every principal site holds a weekly public session, patrols on foot, works to published priorities and takes up concerns about crime, safety and antisocial behaviour raised by staff, citizens and member organisations.
- Station counters and property
- Six stations with public counters for reporting crime, handing in found property and collecting lost property. Property is held for three months and then disposed of in accordance with the Department's property rules.
- Police certificates and record extracts
- Certificates for employment, tenancy and work with children or vulnerable persons, and extracts of a person's own record, issued without charge to staff and citizens from 14 September 2026.
- Safety advice
- Published advice on personal safety, securing property and cycles, recognising fraud and travelling safely between sites, revised as the pattern of recorded crime changes.
Availability. Patrol and response cover has operated at every principal site since establishment. The remaining services come into operation during September 2026 on the dates shown below.
